Geelong Imperial Super Diesel
An Imperial “Super Diesel” (No. 178F) in the machinery display at the Royal Geelong Show. This is an earlier model than the Super Diesel at Kyabram a few years ago (No 2017C), and does not have the “Read Instruction Book” on the plate.

Lancing Bagnall Tug
A few weeks ago I had a quick trip to the Royal Geelong Show, for some Corgi showing. During a break in the show, and the rain, I managed to escape and look a the machinery exhibits. This Lancing Bagnall tractor / tug was a bit different to the steam, oil and traction engines on display.

Looks like RTFM isn’t a new phenomenon, with a very prominent “READ Instruction Book” found on the builders plate for this Imperial “Super Diesel” seen at the Kyabram Agricultural Show.

According to the Museum of Victoria the Imperial “Super Diesel” engine:
… played an important role in introducing mechanisation to a wide range of construction and rural industries throughout Australia with their low running costs and ability to operate on a variety of low grade fuels being particularly important to their success. They also played a key part in establishing the Australian manufacture of reliable diesel engine designs.
