A Melbourne bound VLocity unit leaves Stratford station, and is about to cross the new Avon River bridge. These units and increased service frequency have been responsible for a resurgence in regional rail travel in Victoria. Even so, they don’t have the same feel as a “real” train!

Avon River Railway Bridge
The old railway bridge over the River Avon at Stratford. This bridge has been added to the Victorian Heritage Register. The listing recognises the bridge as a notable example of a nineteenth century rail bridge, and the significance the Bairnsdale railway line had in the settlement of regional Victoria.
