A small Christmas display at Southern Cross Station at the entrance at the corner of Collins St and Spencer St.

The view from the buffers on the Country part of Spencer Street / Southern Cross Station. A couple of V/Line Sprinters sit at the far end of the platform about to head to Seymour.

The much moved Water Tower Clock in the main entrance to Southern Cross / Spencer Street Station. With the strong backlighting and the bright LCD screens underneath trying to get a reasonable photo was challenging.
Without this Water Tower Clock primer from Marcus at Waking Up In Geelong I would have continued to keep on walking past this piece of Melbourne’s history. The clock started at the original Flinders Street station, and moved to Princes Bridge when Flinder Str was rebuilt. This was followed by a move to Spencer Street station, followed by a move to Scienceworks and it’s eventual relocation and restoration here in 2014.

Melbourne’s Southern Cross / Spencer Street Railway Station seems to be in perpetual gloom now that it has an overall roof. But it is a vast improvement on the open soulless expanse that came before.
