Flinders Street Subway

Flinders Street Subway

We had a family trip in to the Royal Melbourne Show for the fireworks and general spectating today. This is ahead of the Corgi extravaganza on Tuesday, with 57 across the two breeds entered on Breed Day.

With the reopening of the Degraves Street Subway the mid-station subway between platforms at Flinders Street has reopened as well. On the Yarra River end this reminder of how things used to be is there. The railway lines to St Kilda and Port Melbourne were converted to light rail (tram). The conversion involved regauging the track from 5′ 3″ back to 4′ 8½” and reducing the electrical system from 1500V to 600V.

It’s nice to see this piece of history being preserved, but it sould do with some restoration!

Mooroolbark Stop

At least the sign has got it right – Stop, eating animals. No one should be disturbed while they are eating! Although I would hope that they would find a less disruptive place to be a carnivore.
