River Shannon Limerick

The River Shannon seen from King John’s Castle in Limerick. April 2007 and the Global Financial Crisis is still a way off, the Celtic Tiger was roaring. Everywhere you looked there were cranes and construction work, 12 year of boom times and it seemed there was no end in sight. A few months later and we were all talking about the failing PIIGS economies – Portugal, Italy, Ireland Greece and Spain – and the rest of the world was struggling as well.

This photo first appeared on BrizBunny in a much smaller form pretty close to the date taken as BrizVegas. This was the second post on that blog. The web was a different place back then, it was dial-up land and 17″ CRT screens were big. I’m pretty sure that my shared hosting capped out at 5Mb of storage – about a months worth of photos here now.

It’s hard to believe that it was 15 years ago when I spent three months in Brisbane for work at this time of year. On a Melbourne day like today (rain, wind and a balmy 8°C) appeal is apparent.
