Sir Stanley Savige – Legacy Founder

This mosaic is on the back of Legacy House in Drewery Lane. It commemorates Sir Stanley Savige who founded the charity Legacy in 1923. Legacy supports the families of service-men and -women who died or lost their health in conflicts or through service-related activities. Surrounding the piece are a selection of the ceramic tiles remembering lost family members. This larger mosaic is the work of Sankar Nadeson. The mosaic is based on the 1958 portrait by Alfred Cook for the Australian War Memorial.

Sir Stanley enlisted in the AIF and saw action in Gallipoli, eventually rising to Lieutenant General accepting the Japanese surrender of Bougainville in 1945.

Ryan McNaught is one of only 13 certified Lego Professional builder in the world. He created this 3.2 metre tall, 100,000 brick mosaic. It shows Carlton’s Andrew Walker screaming mark over Essendon’s Jake Carlisle in the AFL’s 2011 Round 18.

Again, this looks like a fictional stamp rather than being a copy of a real one. I had to resort to 1s 2d rather than the more normal 1/2 as you can’t use “/” in file names.
