An Allis-Chalmers Model B Tractor from 1937 in the company’s distinctive orange livery. The model B was designed for small farms after a survey of farms across the USA. Allis-Chalmers closed its doors in 1999 and became a lost brand.
The builders plate from yesterdays steam lorry. A search revealed that some details of our mystery machine. Foden 10988, was built in 1923 with a 6 ton capacity, and worked in a quarry in Castlemaine.

Jeff Thompson’s corrugated iron clad HQ Holden Kingswood in Wellington’s Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand. Maybe Holden wasn’t a lost brand in 2005, but the well loved, and hated, Kingswood badge was having been replaced by the Commodore in 1978.
Definitely a lost brand, I only found one hit for “Ball’s Giant Compressor”, and there isn’t much more for the Ice & Cold Machine Co, St Louis MO.
Not quite a lost brand, but not far off it, as it was merged to form Mirrlees Blackstone a part of Alstom. Mirrlees were the builders of the worlds third diesel engine, and at one stage held the exclusive right for the diesel engine patent in the UK.
