The bonnet emblem on the 1930 CF DeSoto 8 at the Bunyip Agricultural Show 2026. The Chrysler brand, DeSoto, was named after the 16th-century Spanish explorer and conquistador, Hernando de Soto. The DeSoto emblem is a stylised version of the DeSoto family coat of arms.
This is the hood ornament on the DeSoto 8 at the Bunyip Agricultural Show. Interestingly, this is a La Salle “Rocketman” ornament. La Salle was a General Motors brand that sat just below the Cadillac. The La Salle brand was discontinued in the early 1940s when it was realised that it was cannibalising Buick and Cardillac sales, the marques either side of it. It would be interesting to know why a GM ornament ended up on a competitors car.
At the Bunyip Agricultural Show 2026 the 1930 DeSoto 8 CF was back. That gave me chance for a few close-up shots. DeSoto was a mid-range car brand formed by Chrysler.

Adam Black’s 1904 6hp single cylinder Foden steam traction engine. The Foden was there as the support engine for Maffra’s Golden Roller. The family resemblance to Graeme Brown’s Foden seen at the Royal Geelong Show in 2024 is obvious. The Foden was at the Newport Railway Workshops Open Day 2026.
A 1949 Farmall Cub at the Kyneton Agricultural Show 2025. The Cub was the smallest tractor made by International Harvester between 1949 and 1979. This photo shows the offset driving position to make it easier working in paddocks.
