I spotted this in the Little Malop Street, Geelong today.

The elaborately lined, and massive, wheel of yesterday’s Foden traction engine at the Royal Geelong Show 2024.

A Foden traction engine (No 1985) at the Royal Geelong Show 2024. This fine specimen is owned by Graeme Brown, Farmer, on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The Chamberlain Type 40K tractor glistens in the sun at the Royal Geelong Show 2024. Proudly proclaiming that it is “Made in Australia”. This model has a 2 cylinder 6L kerosene engine made. This tractor is owned by David Baker of Mt Duneed, and is number 298 from 1950 out of a total 403 Type 40Ks.

The rear-end of yesterday’s John Fowler traction engine with: ‘K.F. & C.M. Lord “Carramar” Heyfield’ signwritten on the back.

A John Fowler & Co (Leeds) Ltd Leeds ploughing engine at the Royal Geelong Show 2024. This engine was being used to drive a portable sawmill off the long leather belts.

A close-up of yesterday The “Blackstone” Oil Engine (#96346) at the Royal Geelong Show 2024.

The “Blackstone” Oil Engine (#96346) ticking over in the machinery display at the Royal Geelong Show 2024.

An Imperial “Super Diesel” (No. 178F) in the machinery display at the Royal Geelong Show. This is an earlier model than the Super Diesel at Kyabram a few years ago (No 2017C), and does not have the “Read Instruction Book” on the plate.

A few weeks ago I had a quick trip to the Royal Geelong Show, for some Corgi showing. During a break in the show, and the rain, I managed to escape and look a the machinery exhibits. This Lancing Bagnall tractor / tug was a bit different to the steam, oil and traction engines on display.

Seeing the back of the Geelong Mime bollard makes it worth going back and looking at the front again. The mime is holding a ticket “Admit 1 February 14th”. Looking at the front, you can see that the mime has a broken heart and appears to be crying. The bollard also has one of the many bollard bunnies, a feature of this great outdoor artwork.

Ian MacDonald, Engineer and Surveyor for the City of Geelong, he designed the Eastern Beach complex. He holds the rolled-up plans. A very chunky, and casually attired me in the middle. On the right is Robert de Bruce Johnstone, three-times Mayor of Geelong and Geelong MLA for 13 years.
