Greenwich Church Road
St Alfega Church dominates Greenwich Church Road, a step sideways from Greenwich’s most famous resident, Cutty Sark. St Alfega was Archbishop of Canterbury in 1012 when he was taken hostage by Danish raiders. Rather than being ransomed he was executed in Greenwich. The church commemorates and memorialises St Alfega’s martyrdom.
