The Flinders Street / Swanston Street corner of the CBD caught from the Art Centre looking over the Yarra River. The dome of Flinders Street Station peaks out from behind the trees. St Paul’s Cathedral spires tower over the corner, followed by the gothic revival 196 Flinders Street – once home to the Metropolitan Gas Company, now Torrens University Melbourne campus. While Federation Square appears to sit on Princes Bridge from this angle.
A break in the summer heat made for a pleasant dog walk this evening. An unusual sight in the horse paddock tonight – a straw-necked ibis. The straw-necked ibis areseen less often than the Australian White Ibis we but they are not rare.
Grampy is in charge of the downhill leg of the journey. No doubt he will get to haul the toboggan, and Zoe, back uphill as well!
Zoe is busy making sure that Gran and Grampy stay on their feet in the car park at Lake Mountain back in 2014. Or maybe they are carting her off to the police car behind them!
The front gates to the farm on Galls Gap Road, Strathbogie. This was the last photo that I took of the farm, as Susan’s parents had sold up and were in the process of moving back to Melbourne.
Zoe and her maternal grandparents enjoy the winter sun on the farm back in 2013.
Bushfires locally in Croydon and further afield in the Grampians swathed Melbourne in smoke yesterday afternoon. The sky, and the sun, turned orange; that and the wind took some of the heat out of the day – perfect weather for swimming.
The 17.5m (57ft) LED Christmas Tree in Federation Square.
Melbourne’s Anglican Cathedral, St Paul’s from Swanston Street. The fence surrounds the under construction Metro Tunnel Town Hall railway station, and not an anti-church barricade.
A mid-week trip out to Lilydale Lake. The Guides had arranged a canoeing session for their year-end break-up, and they had a perfect night for it. A group of Australian, or Eurasian Coots (Fulica atra) came over to check out their new floating buddies.
Looking down to the Sandy Flat and the Seven Creeks from the Track. The Sandy Flat is pock-marked by rabbit burrows and is reached by it’s own steep track.
