Sunrise in Kilsyth on the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice occurs for a moment when the earth is at its maximum tilt away from the sun, giving us the shortest day. And it was a beautiful foggy, and very cold, morning – just right for catching the sunrise.

Gum Flowers

Here are some flowers on a gum tree just around the corner from work to show that it isn’t all gloom and doom in a wintry Melbourne. I Love the contrast between the flowers and the dark green foliage, it’s one of the few colourful bursts at this time of year on my lunchtime walks.

So much for my hope that the weather would hold until the weekend! Wintry weather hit with a vengeance at the end of the week. Rain and cold wind were the order of the day. At least there were still some leaves left to make a good photo of.

A follow-up to the Autumn post earlier on in the week. I just love the colour of the leaves at this time of year, especially with the clear blue sky backdrop.

On a walk to the shops the other day I came across this riot of colour. Bright red autumnal leaves against a deep blue sky. Of course I didn’t have a “real” camera with me, so I had to make do with my mobile phone, and it didn’t do that badly. I hope that the leaves, and the weather, will hold-put until next weekend so that I can have another go at this.
